Still pregnant
After three attempts to end this once and for all, I am still pregnant. Only today, 8 weeks and 3 days after my egg retrieval, was I finally diagnosed with an ectopic.
The doctor's office called and said the pathologist found no chorionic villi in the tissue removed during my D&C. We weren't sure whether I'd passed it during my earlier miscarriages (and how strange is it to make that plural?), or whether it was a more ominous sign, so I went in for bloodwork to make sure my hCG levels had decreased as expected.
Well, they hadn't. In fact, they'd risen — a pretty clear indication of an ectopic pregnancy. Why didn't we know this earlier? I blame society.
No, wait. I blame the pseudosac.
Apparently, in 10 to 20% of ectopic pregnancies, a pseudosac is formed in the uterus, mimicking the appearance of a real gestational sac. I don't know why a pseudosac sometimes develops. Who the hell does it think it's fooling?
In my case, the sac we saw on ultrasound looked like an early intrauterine pregnancy — just one that was far behind where it should have been in size.
As to why this wasn't detected sooner, I can only assume it can be hard to tell the difference. Either you can wait for the development of a yolk sac and a fetal pole to be sure it's a true sac, or an ultrasound can show the characteristic double ring (known as the double decidual sign).
My doctor pored over the ultrasound films and determined that it looked like a real live sac. Because I was eager to move on, we didn't spend any more time waiting for a yolk sac to develop. We concluded it was simply a non-viable uterine pregnancy, and acted accordingly.
What can I say? Mistakes were made.
I've had attentive followup care; otherwise the situation could have become dangerous. I have some mild symptoms (cramps, bleeding), but I would have ignored them because they're also what you'd expect after a D&C.
I go in tomorrow for a shot of methotrexate, which should arrest the growth of the pregnancy, allowing my body to resorb or jettison the remaining tissue. After working so hard to achieve a pregnancy, I never imagined I'd be working just as hard to end one.

My sister found out she was pregnant. Took the tests and they were positive. About a week later she felt severe pain on her right side. They took her in, told her it was ectopic. Gave her 2 shots of methotrexate and did a d&c. Her levels went down. On her final check up to go back to work her levels had tripled. They said we don't know what's happening. They did an ultrasound and said your cured. We will check your levels. Now 3 weeks later they tell her there is a pregnancy in her uterus 6 weeks gestation. How could that be after the methotrexate which is an abortion shot, and the D&C. This makes no sense whatsoever. NO one can give her answers. Anyone gone through anything like this?
Any suggestions?? I took 2 home pregnancy tests...both positive. The next day really heavy bleeding like I was on my period. Went in to the doctor...took blood. My hcg levels were only 459 so threatened miscarriage. Went in the next day to get more blood and to get rhogam shot. Levels went up to 525...came in for an ultrasound. Saw small gestational sac but ruled out that it wasn't eptopic. Took more blood. Now the levels went back up to 635??? Put on bedrest for the weekend and will have second ultrasound on Monday.....please tell me what is going on???
I was told i was having a miscarriage, my sac was too small for how far along i should have been, and it had no yolk and was mishapen (distinctly remember being told that now after reading one of these stories). But i also remember them saying my tube was enlarged. I was put on bedrest, two weeks later i was rushed to emergency room hemmorraging. They did a d&c blood work and sent me home. A few weeks later I had severe pain on my left side followed by heavy bleeding. After 3 1/2 weeks i went to doctor who did blood work every other day to make sure hcg levels were dropping because i still showed positive on pregnancy test. I was referred to a specialist who had me have the dye test run on my tubes, during which i had severe pain on the left side, the same side i had the pain on followed by the bleeding. After reading up on this i am almost certain i had a tubal pregnancy that ruptured my tube. I haven't been able to conceive and it has been 3 years. I am now having mild pain intermittently on that left side again. Should i make an appointment with specialist or am i overreacting?
I am currently a little more than 4 weeks pregnant. My hcg levels haved dropped in the last 2 days (although very slightly) and my Dr. took me off of Prometrium. Anyone know why he would take me off the progesterone unless he knows this pregnancy is already doomed?
I am 5 weeks pregnant, i was having a strong pain, not the same as period cramping but i also get those as well off and on. I went to the hospital and they were running some tests, they saw a very small sac, which i dont know much about, but they are also afraid that i might be having an ectopic pregnancy, so they want to see me every two days to makes sure everything is okay. I am nurvous and believe me i feel like crying, i am stressed. Do you think that there could be something wrong with my pregnancy?...i still get period cramps off and on, but i have no bleeding, no dizziness. they took my blood and said it was fine but they still would like to see me on friday....Is it bad to have a small sac?....is my baby going to be okay ? am i going to be fine?...please email me and let me know asoon as possible, i need your advice.
On 3-30-05 I had a miscarriage. I didn't even know I was pregnant. I had been bleeding for 6 days by then and thought it was just a normal period, but when I went to the bathroom I felt something come out. I knew the feeling since I had had a miscarriage almost 2 years ago. When I retrieved the... tissue... I saw what it was and my husband took me to the hospital. The check-in nurse said I had been 13 weeks along... which I doubt since my cycles are very messed up and I had done a home preg. test in the middle of Feb. and it was negative. The doctor who treated me said that my hcg level was at 800, and that my uterus was closed, but that it was definitely a miscarriage. A few days later I saw part of the sac come out and then the rest of it a couple days after that. How is that possible if my uterus was closed? Also I'm feeling more pregnant now than when I really was and it's been 2 weeks since my miscarriage. If I take a pregnancy test would my results be accurate, or would it be a false-positive if it does say that I am? If anybody has any suggestions I would really appreciate it.
I have had 9 of 10 symtoms of pregnancy at which right now i would only be entering my fourth week. It has been to early for a home pregnancy test so i decided to wait and see if my period would in fact be late before i tested. Monda was 5 days before i was scheduled to start my normal MP(period) and it was very stressful..i started spotting at first very light, but brown in color..It grew heavier but still wasn't enough to soak a pad ovr night, but the blood is also getting brighter red..what could this mean? Coulld it be implantation bleeding or could it be my normal period? But if normal why the change in flow and color? I would really appreciate some help..
I have been trying to get pregnant for the last two years.I took a pregnancy test about two weeks ago but it was negative but my most recent period has come with symptoms that i never have dizziness,nausea,no appite and more. my period is two weeks early and has never been early.What are these symptoms?Could i be pregnant? I am AB- and I had a miscarriage Oct 26 1997. 4 days after the doctor put me on the 5 year birth control (inplant in arm) A little over a month later I had to get the tooken out because they was moving in my arm. (Remembering this is in 1997) I have been trying to get pregnant and finally June 12, 2005 I found out that I was pregnant. Now I am so scared that I will have another miscarriage. I don't know what blood type my husband is, and I want this child more than ever. When I ask the doctors about the RhoGam shot they said that I have to wait until I am 28weeks along, but when I had my miscarriage in 97' they told me that as soon as i found out that I was pregnant I needed the shot... I just found out I am 11 weeks pregnant. I have vaginal bleeding, the passing of tissue, and cramping in my lower abdomen. Can a pregnancy test tell me if I had a miscarriage or do I need to go to the doctor?
I am 9 weeks and 4 days pregnant. I am a fertility patient so I am being monitored closely. I had my first ultrasound 2 weeks again my baby was 4mm in size with a normal heart rate and sac size..Everything was great. I went back for my 2nd ultrasound yesterday, heart rate is normal, baby is now 19mm in size however my fetal sac is behind. My doc put me on antibotics 4x's a day, said it is possible I may have some kind of infection or I may have a small pin size hole in my sac. My bloodwork has been fine, I am taking 200mg of progesterone 2x's a day and have been since my insemination. The nurse said not to worry myself over this just make sure to take the medicine and come back in another week for a 3rd ultrasound. This is my first pregnancy. Has anyone ever had this problem or anything similar. I would appreciate feedback.
Hi, Chris. With my second pregnancy the gestational sac lagged behind it was significantly smaller than it should have been, though the embryo was the right size and the heart rate was good. You can read about it, but I'll warn you that we did not have a good outcome. I wish you the very best of luck. Please let us know how your next scan goes.
Hi well I wanted to ask some advice I had an abortion on aug the 10th and my dr said on the 16th that everything was normal and that I am no longer pregnant but I still felt pregnant and I would have been 9 weeks along then but I still felt all the symptoms of a the first trimester I stopped having nausea about a week ago which would be about the time when I would normally stop if I was still pregnant I kinda want the kid but cannot afford it and cannot give it up as I already have two children ages 1 and 2 but I feel wierd I have been on the birth control patch and I felt myself down there and I still think I can feel an enlarged uterus and my tummy is getting bigger and my jeans are getting tighter and I am still gaining weightI suppose I would be about 13-14 weeks or so now if I was still pregnant but a hpt came back negative ever since I put my BC patch back on I have been bleeding but the blood all the sudden two days ago turned different and I am having really intense cramping I still feel and look pregnant but nothing says I am could it be the patch I am on or is there a possibility that I am still pregnant? they said there was twins when I got my first ultrasound but when I went to have the procedure done they said the other looked like it was nothing is it possibility that they left the other one in there that was "nothing" and empty? I bleed with both my children during the whole first trimester has anyone ever heard anything silmilar or had the same thing happen what are the chances I could still be pregnant my son was quadruplets but I miscarried all but him still had the sacks in me though when I went to give birth my water broke 4 times as I had 4 embryonic sacks inside me
I have found out i was pregnant by the clear blue test which measures on 50hcg. Since then i have taken on 4 days later and it is negitive. I had a blood test done and it said my hcg levels have dropped and i have to get a repeat test done .Does this probably mean i am going to have a miscarriage or it is likely my numbers will go back up.
I had a miscarrage at 7 1/2 wks I would be 12 weeks tomorrow. I still feel very pregnant and my breast are getting very big along with my belly this would have been my third pregnancy. I am getting blood work done to see if I am still pregnant. My doctor said that I could have been pregnant with twins. Can anyone give me any advice of let me know if they have ever gone through this?

i went in for an ultrsound yesterday. it was my second appointment and at my first they told me i would be 12 weeks today and that is what i guessed becasue i only had sex twice in november and that would put me at 12 weeks but in my ultrasound my doctor said i was only 9 weeks becasue the baby was only 19mm but he didnt seem worryed about it and sent me home. but i no that cant be posible becasue me last period was on november 1st and we had sex on november 12 13 and 19. could it be posible that i got pregnant on the 20 or 21 and that is why it is showing a am 3 weeks off? please somone help i am so afraid for my baby. its my first and i really want to be a mom. i already love it and its only an inch long lol.

Question. I was 7 days late for my period. Then I started to get a period. I thought I was not pregnant, but then I continued to bleed. I am now on my 16th day of bleeding. Two days ago the doctor told me to take a pregnancy test and call them back, I did and it was positive. But then I got blood work the next day, and went to the doctor the following day. The doctor told me the blood test showed I was not pregnant. He was very short and didn't seem to have time to answer my questions, plus I just was not sure about his results. So when I got home, I took another test and it was positive again. COuld I have had a miscarriage, or could the blood test be wrong?
Can someone answer a question for me... I just found out I am pregnant, and am about 5 weeks along... I would like to know what types of pains and or feelings anyone has had during their first trimester. This my first pregnancy, and I don't know what is and isn't normal feeling. I took 2 home pregnacy tests and they were both negative in I believe it was march, My last period was in like Feb around the 11. Hi when my period started june 8th to 11 and I kinda have sex on 12 and 13 then I have another period on 20 to 27 . I been sick for almost 2 wks and brest sore for 2 days . Im 29 yrs old. I am 9 weeks pregnant. I cramped for 2 weeks in the beginning and couldnt wait till they went away because they scared me. Also spotted for 2 days which must have been the inplantation bleeding. Ive been nauseated, tired, grouchy, breasts sore, uterus is no longer cramping but is sore, and feels uncomfortable, I have crazy dreams, Ive had the metallic taste in my mouth, Im already peeing myself when I sneeze-- thats really sad seeings im just starting my 3rd month and got a long way to go!!! hello, i had miscarriage at 12wks ..it just stopped growing at about 5wks had to have a d&c because i couldnt pass it natually..now its been 6wks i started my period and it was heavier and longer than usual. since i have been sick to my stomach and cramps could something be wrong or went wrong with d&c?..or is this normal? please somebody help!!

Hi, I just had a miscarriage on July23,2006. Today is Aug.6,2006 and I took a home pregnancy test just to see if it would still read if I'm pregnant, and it said I was. I'm guessing my body is still thinking it's pregnant. Can I have intercourse during this stage and chance that I will get pregnant again?
I am 8 weeks pregnant but I took and sonograph ultra-sound when I was 5 1/2 weeks pregnant and I was told that they saw only a sac and my hcg level was 7400 at the time, my doctor told me that they should have seen the baby since my level was so high and that I might have to have a D&C because the baby might not be growing, I wanting for my blood test to comew back to see if my HCG level went up to get a nother sonograph.

I should be 9weeks pregnant but I just had and ultrasound and the nurse said that my sac is empty. she asked if I was sure about my LMP. The docotor wants me to have another ultrasound 2wks from the last one and than tells me it doesn't look promising and if any bleeding occurs inthe next 7 days to give them a call. I am so scarred what should i do? I really want this baby!!!
I am 27 weeks and havent been to a doctor yet. The reason being with my last pregnancy everything was a nightmare. They left the epidural needle in me long after i deleivered. Noone noticed until it was time to leave the hospital. THere were other things too. I live in Texas.. Other than the obvious reasons for going to the Doctor, can I get in any legal trouble for not going???
Wow.. I cannot believe all of these comments from women with pregnancy questions!! I feel for you, but do you ladies not understand that this was posted back in 2003 and the woman who wrote this journal is not a pregnancy help line??
IF you have had unprotected sex, or introduced semen into your vagina, YES... you could be pregnant. You can be pregnant and still have bleeding. If you take a pregnancy test and it is NEGATIVE, wait a week and take another. If the test is STILL NEGATIVE, you are probably NOT pregnant.
If you think you are pregnant anyway, GO TO A DOCTOR. They can tell you for sure.

i had unprotected sex on the 29th july 06 and started a period on 31st july 06 i was due mynext period 21st august 06 but never came on i did a pregnancy test and it came back negative but its 6th sept 06 and i still havent had a period ive feeling nausea most mornings when i wake, fatigue, and been suffering from more headaches lately as well as going to the loo more oftne could i still be pregnant or it there sumother reason to why i havent had a period yet

Hey everyone!! I recently had a miscarriage in August (approximately 8 weeks along). I had the usual bleeding and cramping that comes along with a miscarriage. The doctor ordered me to undergo a D&C. The doctor told me prior to the D&C I will bleed heavily for a week or 2 with menstrual like cramps. Since the D&C, I have had no signs of cramping and have had no bleeding. I failed to mention to the doctor that I have a history of twins on both sides of my family. I'm still feeling all the signs of pregnancy that I felt when I realized I was pregnant. By now, the hcg levels should be low enough to detect that I'm "not pregnant" according to an HPT. I took an HPT just out of curiosity to see if my levels had dropped back down to normal and the test showed a bright positive. I was just wondering that since I have a history of twins in my family, is there a big possibility that I could have lost one baby and still be carrying another baby?? I go back to the doctor next week. I am going to request an ultrasound to make sure everything is going the way it should be (or to see if there are any surprises I should know about). I was just wondering if anyone has had a miscarriage and how long it took them to get pregnant afterwards. I had my first miscarriage a week ago and the D&c surgery 2 weeks ago. I think I might be pregnant again and wasn't sure if this is too soon.
I was told for the last 3 weeks i had kidney stones or a cyst. major pains in my side and alot of pressure in the back side...on 8th of Aug i got rushed to EMERG and they told me i was probaly miscarring? I dodnt even know i was pregnant, they did an ultrasound and i was told it was empyt so A) i miscarried or B) i'm "newly pregnant". anyhow my HCG levels in the hospital were 111 on friday, and 94 on tuesday and i went for another blood test 3 days ago but i dont know the results as of yet.Its nerve racking...i have an ultra sound again this wednesday,but your right,i've read previous on here that we still have symptoms? I wonder if we want it so bad we give ourselves the symptoms?

Over seven weeks ago I was going for my 12 week scan. To be told that my baby had passed and that the pregnancy couldnt continue so after being given my choices on what to do I decided to go under a local anistetic. After a simple operation I woke up a hour later and hemoraged. I had injections to stop me bleeding and the doctor descovered not all the tissue had been removed so the following day I was scheduled to got o surgery again and repeat the operation. The operation this time went fine and I was told that I was allowed to go home the following morning and that I should stop belleding within 7-10 days. Well 14 days on I was still bleeding quite heavy and was re admitted to hospital. Again had a internal scan and I had developed a blood clot 4cm in diameter in my womb and still had tissue. I was also told that I would probably have to go to surgery again but there were high risks of perferating my womb causing internal bleeding so of course I refused the surgery and decided to try and pass the clot naturally (excluding the pain). I was on pain killers etc etc and had to visit hospital every friday to have another scan. Each Friday I was told that the clot had reduceded slightly in size and last friday I was discharged from hospital. I was so relived after all the ordeal of loosing something we so wanted all the nightmare was so over (WRONG!!!) a week and half later I am still bleeding. It has been nearly 8 weeks now and the bleeding is starting to affect my health. I have lost over a stone and half always tired and feeling sick. I feel that all the hospital are doing now is keeping an eye on me and keep saying come back in a week etc! well I dont want that now I want to get better! I was wondering if anyine has had a similar situation to this and what happened and is there any doctors on here that can give me some advice?
