"Oh, and then there was the smack..."

I read a lot of message boards about infertility and it always cracks me up when I see some nice lady say, "I was so sure that my beta test would be negative that I had half a cup of coffee. Well, it was positive! Do you think I harmed the baby?"

I just keep waiting for someone to post, "Man, that three-day tequila bender was a big mistake." Or, "I was so depressed that I went out and blew a syphilitic Haitian. Do you think it's okay?"

With all the drugs I did in my indiscreet youth, I'll be lucky if my eventual child isn't born with gills.

Julie--I promise if I ever get a postive that turns into a viable pregnancy, I will post one of the above at the site I frequent. The people who are smart there will get it and laugh, the ones who don't will be shocked off their tuffets.

Spent way too much time today reading more of the blog. I am so glad I came here and you're on the list now of people I pray/wish good things for.

you rock! a virtual friend showed me your blog and it made me laugh out loud. i won't bore you with my personal history, but suffice to say medical "experts" told me i would never conceive, much less carry a child to term. they nearly killed me with their *treatments*. tonight i have a (v beautiful) 11-year-old girl watching tv, a 13-year-old boy msning his gf and driving me nuts and my (baby) eight-year-old (manchild) learning to a be a natural born killer on the ps2 - all conceived (with three others) without the *help* of doctors. it aint over til it's over ...

I found your blog through the Broadsheet at Salon.com and am currently working my way through it chronologically.

I started by reading the "Notes from astride the stirrups" section, and made my way through Charlie's birth in one night (the being tired and late to work the next day was worth it). I know I've missed a lot so I'm going back to read all the other posts. I had to post after reading this particular entry since it made me laugh so long and hard. I vow to also do the same as Amy if I'm ever pregnant!

I know you'll probably never see this, but keep up the good job! I saw that you're trying for #2, and although it might not be the decision I would make, good luck and I hope things go much better the second time around.

Julie, your blog is hysterically funny to the rest of the insane. My wife and I (well, actually mostly my wife, I guess) recently had a full molar pregnancy, D&C, the whole nine yards. I was up trying to find half-life statistics on hCG to use in modeling expected values during her recovery when I came across your blog.
Once we accept life is terminally sucky, it becomes highly entertaining theater. Truly, you are a service to humanity.

This is not a blog, it is your future novel. Submit this, please.

By the way, Is it okay to drink 8 cups of coffee a day, smoke like a chimney, and take Advil while imitating a pincushion just days before an IUI? Gee, I hope I don't hurt the baby.

I just found your blog and I am reading it from the beginning as well. I have just started on my own journey ( 1 failed IUI/inject cycle) of infertility/PCOS. Your honest, funny and refreshing blog is bringing a smile back to my face. Thanks!
