I made this for the newborn daughter of a friend. I loved working on this one — the fabrics in the Mendocino line are so silky and fine. I don't want to give the impression that they're flimsy, because they're not; they're just an order of magnitude smoother than most other cotton prints I've come across.
I also threw in some of Anna Maria Horner's Good Folks, one of Amy Butler's Lotus prints, and some assorted others for good measure.
The back features one of my all-time favorites, a print called Animal Stencil by Jackie Shapiro. I hated using it up, and have to keep telling myself that's why I buy it, to use it.
The binding is an uninspiring hot print stripe that seems to work pretty well with the rest of the quilt. My favorite part of the binding are the yellow inserts.
The quilt is washed, folded, and ready to be stuffed lovingly into a mailing box. Let's hope the baby is ready to be stuffed lovingly into the quilt.
