We have a chair that's been in my husband's family for some time. It has a funky emblem on its back, a crowned snake flanked by a hammer and some pliers. It used to be covered in a dusty old silk damask. I thought it was time to bring in some whimsy. Because that is what I do. I am a bringer...of whimsy.

Here's a close-up of the motif. Recognize it? Snake-Builders' Union? Dentists by Appointment to the Royal House of Boomslang? Loyal International Brotherhood of Oh, Shit There's a Snake in My Toolbox?
And a look at the chair's seat. I used two of Erin Michael's prints from Lush, some coordinating solids, an Amy Butler — one of my all-time favorite prints, Wall Flower from Lotus — and an Anna Maria Horner print. The patches are banded in natural linen.
It's Scotchgarded all to Hell but the first person to try to sit on it gets his ass kicked by the snake. The snake and I have...an understanding.
Beautiful!

It's not a snake. It's a roundworm. And the rest... well, let's just say it's not easy getting rid of roundworms.
Beautiful upholstery job, missy. Me gusta mucho!

Wait, is the snake wearing a chef's hat?

Pretty!
Evidently the snake & tools are the coat of arms of the blacksmith guild of Zürich...
